Banana in Coconut Milk

Ingredients for Banana in Coconut Milk
  • 2 small Thai bananas (or 1 big banana)
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. of salt
  • 1/4 cup water
How to prepare Banana in coconut milk or Guai Buad Chee?
  1. Put coconut milk in a cooking pot with water, sugar and salt in the proportions above.
  2. Heat the pot over low heat and stir constantly until the sugar and salt melt.
  3. Cut bananas into small pieces and put them in the pot. You don't want the banana pieces to be too big or small. If the pieces are too big, the coconut flavor will not remain in the banana and if the banana pieces are too small, they will be soggy.
  4. Stir gently and cover the banana with the sauce in the pot.
  5. Cook the banana pieces until they are darkened.
  6. Take the pot off heat and put the content in a bowl to serve.

This banana in coconut milk desert can be served warm or at room temperature. It is best to serve warm as the coconut milk thickens and the banana pieces become soggier as time passes by.
