About Us
Cooking Lessons is the official website of
the Cooking Lessons Network formed by a small group
of single moms who are very passionate
about cooking. Cooking Lessons Network was formerly known
as 'Mama's Pot Luck'. We started our group 5 years ago with
just three members. We come from totally different backgrounds
but we had one thing in common; we were all very passionate
about cooking and the art of culinary.
| "Five years ago, when we
started our little group, two of us were single
moms and one of us were undergoing an awful
divorce. We had a lot of free time and we just
needed support from people who knew what we were
going through.." - says Mary Flynns, one of the
founders of Mama's Pot Luck. |
The three ladies found comfort in cooking
their favorite meals for their children and families. The three
moms getting together with the children was a great idea so
they did not have to pay for daycare.
|
"It started off with our
kids wanting to hang out. So, we let them play
everyday after school. Eventually, we all just
hung out. We got talking and found out that we
had so much in common. We love food - great
food... what can I say - we love to eat!" - say
Jennifer Peat, one of the founders of Mama's
Pot Luck.
"Everyday we just kept
talking about our new cooking recipes. I think
we were just showing off to each other... but
eventually we started bringing food to each
other's house. At the beginning it was just
cookies and cakes but that wasn't enough. We
then started organizing cooking spree where one
of us will cook for everyone at a time." - says
Arlene McArthur, the last founder of Mama's Pot
Luck.
"Mom makes great food and
she always comes up with new cooking recipes. I
don't know but it seems like they all are
always coming up with new food ideas." - say
Mary's daughter.

Mama's Pot Luck was the name the girls used
when they get together. It was an informal name so when the
group got bigger with more people wanting to join in the
sharing of cooking recipes and learning about how to be a great
cook, the three ladies decided to change the name of the group
to Cooking Lessons Network.
There are enough members of the Cooking
Lessons Network who want to learn how to cook different
cuisines to warrant a real organization where they can meet,
share ideas and learn from cooking masters. All lessons are
free but donations are suggested, as we need to pay for the
meeting hall.
The goal of Cooking Lessons Network is
to provide gathering opportunities for chefs, chefs to be,
culinary school students, students of various cooking classes,
stay at home moms, and other people interested in cooking and
culinary arts to meet and discuss cooking ideas as well as show
off their cooking skills in our monthly meetings.
We meet every fourth Thursday of each
month from 5pm. We start eating at 7pm. Please bring your
favorite dish and be prepared to share your recipe with other
members.
